The Lucan Spa Hotel

The friendly, very well-organised staff are the only reason I gave three stars. The reception and staircase were beautiful, with colourful, chic decor, but the rest of our stay disappointed us. My husband and I had steaks, and they were dry and not tasty at all. Our room was the worst I’ve ever seen, with dirty walls and windows like a birdhouse. We’d told them when booking that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary, so I can’t believe there could even be a worse room. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Getting a bus into Dublin is handy from here, and the parking is convenient. The exterior is charming, and some of the public areas are lovely. The family room, though, was cramped, noisy because it’s close to the motorway, and had an unpleasant toilet smell. The small bathroom was functional and covered the basics. Some of us were disappointed by breakfast, both the quality and the atmosphere. It felt like a school canteen. The bar was reasonable, but the public bathrooms there could do with a deep clean and some refurbishment. Staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel itself needs a significant refresh to reach a reasonable standard.

We paid almost 400€ for two nights with breakfast, and the value for money was disappointing. Our room was extremely hot, and with no air conditioning and poor insulation, we struggled to fall asleep. Opening the window wasn’t an option because of the traffic noise from the busy motorway right beside the hotel. We were in an old-fashioned triple room at the Lucan Spa Hotel. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and check-in went smoothly, but the price and comfort didn’t meet our expectations.

The grounds are lovely and there’s plenty of parking. It’s just outside Dublin City centre, with a central location, but it feels like you’re out in the countryside. The rooms are lovely, and the food is fantastic.
