We dropped into The Lake Hotel after a funeral, only expecting a quick coffee, and ended up having wings too. They were fabulous, probably the best I've ever had. The staff were lovely, the service was great, and the toilets were spotless. I hadn't been in for a while, and the refurbishment and new manager made for a pleasant surprise. Best of luck with it all. We'll definitely be back.

Free parking and a convenient location made the hotel an easy choice for a short or longer visit. I stayed over the bank holiday weekend, and it was such a great stay. The food was amazing, everything was very clean, and the friendly staff were attentive and went above and beyond. I'll happily return.

The noise from the pub below came straight into the rooms. The pub closed at a reasonable time, and the sound of people enjoying themselves wasn't too bad, but there was loud banging and rolling all evening, possibly from kegs or barrels being moved. I wouldn't recommend staying here. We booked a family room. The hallways smelled like a petting zoo, almost as if someone were secretly keeping hay bales in a room. Strange, but not a huge concern on its own. Our room was clean, though dated, and the beds were awful, like bare springs. Maybe the possible 'hay smuggler' was onto something, because sleeping on hay might have been more comfortable. The second night, the fire alarm went off several times. I went downstairs to check it was a false alarm. The woman in charge that evening was trying to work out where it was being triggered, but didn't seem concerned that some of us were standing in the lobby in our pajamas. Nobody explained or apologized, and no one mentioned it the next day either, which felt odd. Other reviews talk about a phenomenal breakfast, so I wonder if it's changed recently. The buffet was mostly empty, with just cereal, fruit, milk, and two plates of pastries. The a la carte choices were a small or large full Irish breakfast. That's lovely, but the lack of variety was disappointing. We considered eating elsewhere on our second morning, but time and travel constraints meant we ate at the hotel again. Breakfast starts at 8, but the buffet was still bare. We waited for staff to replenish it, and at 8:20, when only a few bowls of fruit had appeared, we asked whether yogurt and bread would be put out soon. We were simply told no. One person in our group asked for yogurt, and a staff member went to check the kitchen, then came back to say they'd run out. They kindly offered croissants and brown bread from the small takeaway station in the dining area, but it felt as if our being there was an inconvenience. We got one cup of coffee, which was never topped up. For someone who relies on morning coffee, that's the real crime, ha.

I stopped for breakfast while heading back to Clifden for a day touring Connemara. The hotel has had a recent refresh and feels very inviting. There's plenty of space for buggies, so it's child friendly. The staff were helpful and friendly, and breakfast was great, especially the acai bowls. I'll definitely come back.

The restaurant staff were helpful, and both dinner and breakfast were excellent during our two night family stay last weekend. The rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable. The TV was smaller than expected, barely bigger than a tablet, and had few channels. Check-in and checkout took a long time and felt tedious, and it was hard to get staff attention for help with our stay. That could be improved.
