Birchdale House B&B

The place is attractive, well cared for, and surrounded by greenery. But I didn't have a good experience with the owner being around so much and checking on us. He even switched off the TV while we were in the sitting room. He also insisted we choose a breakfast time and said we couldn't eat at the same time as other guests, who were our relatives staying in another room. The bathroom sign asked for short showers, permission before taking a bath, and as little time in the bathroom as possible. It felt intrusive.

We managed two lovely October hiking days thanks to Birchdale B&B, and we’ll absolutely return. It’s a short drive from Glendalough, and the hosting team, especially Tom, were fabulous. Our room was beautiful and warm, with a king-size bed and en suite. Best of all, we could bring our dog. Anyone with a dog knows how hard it can be to find somewhere to stay with them.

A quiet, peaceful spot for getting off the beaten path and enjoying rural Ireland. The owners are polite and friendly, the rooms are good, and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was amazing. Definitely recommend.

The garden is lovely and very well maintained, and there’s a guest lounge with books, board games, and playing cards. We had tasty, nicely served breakfast, and the host greeted us, showed us the amenities, and took our order for the next morning. I booked two rooms months ahead. They were tidy and clean, with a spacious shared bathroom. The beds felt short and a bit dated for someone tall like me. It’s in a great spot for Wicklow’s famous sights and was inexpensive, with good service, but the place could use refurbishment.
