Ballymaloe House Hotel

The desserts were the surprise highlight for me, especially the rhubarb. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but every dessert on the trolley was out of this world. The cocktails were beautifully made, too. My partner's family and mine shared lunch this past weekend, and the whole meal was outstanding, beyond what we expected. I had the fish appetizer and lamb main, with delicious carrots and mashed potatoes. Both sides were excellent, and the mash was some of the best I've had. Even the bread before the meal was delicious. We came away having had a lovely afternoon, with wonderful food, a stunning atmosphere, and a great time all around.

The food was top quality, and everything on each plate had a reason to be there. Simply delicious. Service was five star, and they were so accommodating with allergies. Because of a cheese allergy, they made us a whole separate course instead of the cheese course so we wouldn't miss out. Having a wine sommelier there to guide you was a lovely touch.

The new breakfast menu was a hit, especially the mushrooms on toast, and the afternoon tea is a delightful addition. There were daffodils throughout the house, the staff were lovely, and the food was exceptional. Another superb stay. Two little things: we'd booked a double bed but got two beds pushed together, with an uncomfortable divide down the middle. We also preferred the old conservatory menu for residents, which had more typical lunch choices. Now it's main courses with potato and veg. It would be welcome to have an alternative to the huge five course evening meal for residents, even if it had to be room service.

We came back to Ballymaloe for the fifth time this Easter with a big family group, staying three nights. Everything was perfect, from the rooms and grounds to the service and food. So much happens behind the scenes to make this place special, and the whole experience is truly wonderful. The food is top class, farm to fork, and hard to beat. It's my favourite hotel in Ireland. Thanks to everyone at Ballymaloe for making Easter special again!
