The rooms are immaculate, the food and bar staff are excellent, and the whole place is clearly well cared for. I was booked in for work and figured a Country Club wasn’t for me, since I’m more used to modern four-star hotels. I had to eat my words. Reception were lovely and eager to help. We never waited more than two minutes for a menu or ten for a delicious hot dinner, and there’s a great choice. Thanks to Paul, Gillian and everyone else. The breakfast staff made sure I could eat early before heading out, so I never left hungry. The Rhu Glenn is a fabulous spot, and the ring roads make it easy to get around. The question isn’t whether I’d visit again, it’s when.

The food was fantastic and well priced, and the staff made us feel very welcome. I’ll be back.

The room was musty and smelled strongly of mould from the moment I went in. Dust and the smell have continued to affect my breathing, and I think I may have been bitten by bed bugs. I want the matter treated seriously and a full refund issued. I also found the carpets old, worn and filthy, and the blinds and curtains looked as if they hadn’t been cleaned in decades. Smells from the dining room added to the unpleasant atmosphere. The food was inedible, and the mattress was uncomfortable. Along with traffic noise and music from a hotel function, none of it let me sleep. I hadn’t been told the room faced a busy highway, that it wasn’t soundproofed, or that a function was taking place. Had I known, I wouldn’t have booked. The music blared into my room. At about 10:40, I called reception to explain that the music echoing around the hotel was stopping me from resting, and asked when it would end. I was told 12:30, and that a note about my complaint would be left for the manager. At checkout the next morning, I was told there was no record of it. I’d also reported at 3:30 pm on check-in day that the door had no chain lock. Reception said it would be fixed, but it wasn’t. After the sleepless night, I asked to speak to the manager about a refund, but was told no manager was on duty. The receptionist eventually called someone and, while I could hear, said she was having trouble with a really difficult guest. I had to point out that I was being reasonable in raising the poor conditions at a hotel charging exorbitant rates. This was one of the most distressing stays I’ve had. Dear Mr Mooney, thank you for your response. I understand you feel the hotel has a long relationship with Failte Ireland and is committed to the standards of a three-star hotel. My experience and what I paid didn’t match those standards. As you surmised, I won’t stay here again. The dust and smell are still affecting my breathing, and I believe bed bugs may have bitten me. Please treat this seriously and issue a full refund promptly.

We stopped in for carvery lunch, and you certainly won’t leave hungry. It’s a busy former roadhouse that’s been a hotel for many years, with extensive meeting rooms.
