Nevins Newfield Inn

The service was still very good, but the food let us down on our visit two weeks ago. We used to come here all the time and always ate fantastically, so we were disappointed this time. The garlic bread was raw, the pasta I ordered wasn’t the dish that arrived, and my girlfriend’s plain burger in a bun came with no salad or dressing at all. I ordered the banoffi, but got a plate swimming in cream where I couldn’t tell what it was. It even had coloured sprinkles on it, and I’m over 50. We won’t be back, especially with the prices. We’re happy to pay for great food, but this was average at best and we’d rather go elsewhere. In our opinion, the chef needs a kick up the arse. They’ve advertised for a chef online, incidentally. Enough said.

The service made us feel genuinely welcome and comfortable. They looked after my parents especially well, and nothing was a problem. It was warm and attentive without feeling overdone. My lunch at Nevin’s was flawless. The open smoked salmon and prawn sandwich was piled generously on hearty bread with crisp greens and a squeeze of lemon. The prawns were plump and perfectly dressed, and the silky smoked salmon was beautifully balanced. Fresh and tasty barely describes it, every bite was like the Atlantic on a good day. The ingredients spoke for themselves, simple and confidently prepared. In such a stunning part of Mayo, this was a great lunch. I’ll absolutely be back, and if you’re near Mulranny, make the stop.

We were part of a tour group of 50 at Nevin's Restaurant and had a short time limit, but the kind, attentive staff brought out our food and drinks very promptly. The food was delicious, and we had the nicest muscles and chowder we’ve ever had. The prices were very reasonable too. It’s a quaint place, and we wished we’d had longer to spend there.

I stopped in on my way home for a break and something to eat. The portion was really big and great value, and everything was fresh and delicious. There was a nice range of dishes, including gluten free options. The staff were friendly, professional and great. Highly recommend.
