Eco Akko - Hostel

We liked Akko enough to stay two nights, and ended up with the dorm to ourselves. The people were warm, and we had no problems with cleanliness, Wi-Fi, sheets, or hot water. There are six beds and a small bathroom. It’s an acceptable backup if the better-rated hostel next door is full. This feels more like an old hotel than a typical social hostel, with little space to hang out and kitchen access that you have to negotiate.

The location is good, but some basic things need attention. The beds squeak so loudly that even lifting an arm makes them move and creak, which is hard to believe. The linen is very old. There are no power points by the bed, and the others are in hard-to-reach spots. Cleanliness was passable.

We had trouble figuring out where to park, so we used a paid lot, which turned out to be convenient and inexpensive. The room itself was large and clean, and the main tourist sights are very close. There’s a nice restaurant just two doors down. Staff were helpful, though a little less business-like than I’m used to.

We got stuck in Akko overnight a couple of weeks ago, and Akko Gate Hostel came to our rescue. The receptionist and owner were both really nice, and our room was okay, with a private bathroom. They even let us wait in the lobby all day for the first bus to Tel Aviv. I was glad everything worked out, and I’m satisfied.
