The mineral pools, salt pool, jacuzzi, and sauna were excellent, and convenient access to the artificial Dead Sea beach was a highlight. The rest of our three-night stay had some disappointing service and maintenance issues. Housekeeping apparently hadn’t been told that our room was occupied. Several times staff knocked, and on some occasions opened the door without knocking first. That was unpleasant and completely unacceptable, especially with our small baby. Mosquitoes came into the room from several places, particularly the ceiling’s ducted air-conditioning vents. We reported it to reception on day one, but no effective action was taken during our stay. The balcony floor was dirty, so we couldn’t walk outside barefoot. Sticky pigeon-repellent substance covered the chairs and table, making them unusable, and the railing had it too. It clearly didn’t work: I even photographed a pigeon there. On our last day an employee knocked and said a pigeon treatment had been done, though it hadn’t helped. He couldn’t initially explain why he was there or that he meant to place a sticker. Only after I let him in did I understand he wanted to put a sticker on the balcony door window, telling the next guests sticky repellent had been applied and to avoid touching the railing. There are “No Smoking” signs by the pool, but nobody enforces them. We had to move between seating areas several times because guests smoked beside us and staff did nothing.

The facilities were clean and the service was good, with friendly help. My friends and I had a great stay, and they had no trouble fitting three of us in one room. When we asked for extra linens and towels, they set them up right away.

The hotel is right on the beachfront, which is very convenient, but I’d call it three stars at most. It isn’t especially fancy, and the food selection is limited, though there was something I could find to suit my taste. What really upset me was the birthday discount. The hotel website said guests celebrating a birthday in the month of their stay get 15% off, but I wasn’t given the discount. Staff first insisted there wasn’t one. When I showed them the site saying 15% for club members, they claimed it applied only to SPECIAL club members. I pointed out that the wording didn’t specify a special status, but they said they couldn’t help and told me to contact someone higher up, whom they couldn’t find. I was left feeling deeply deceived.

My room suddenly lost power while I was in the bathroom. I also saw an employee speaking very badly to an elderly man I know to be quiet, humble, and courteous, standing over him in a threatening way. I was shocked and told a manager, but the response was dismissive.

Our family’s stay at the Hod Hotel was marred by poor service and serious hygiene problems. The room was the main issue: it hadn’t been cleaned properly, the sheets were dirty, and there was visible mold in the bathroom and on the AC unit. The balcony was so neglected and dirty that it was unusable. The stay also started badly. Our room wasn’t ready until 4:00 PM, even though check-in was at 3:00 PM, and no one was available to help with our luggage. That level of cleanliness and service isn’t what we expect from a hotel.
