Johnny Hotel is a sweet little find in this part of Jerusalem. It’s family-run, and the family is lovely. The staff were professional and helpful, and the rooftop area was nicely furnished and relaxing. There are also plenty of restaurants within walking distance. The neighborhood gets loud with buses, taxis, trucks, and people on foot, and the windows and rooms don’t block the noise. Still, for a very reasonable price, this is the nicest, best-appointed motel with rooms I’ve found. The renovated rooms are clean, simple, and stylish, with a calm, comfortable feel. The bedding, pillows, linens, and towels were great, the shower was excellent, and the bathroom and floors were clean. The mini fridge was useful for milk, juice, vegetables, and hummus.

This was my worst hotel experience so far. The hotel was dirty, the staff were rude, and instead of a bed I was given a mattress on the floor. Then the manager started demanding more money, claiming the booking was for fewer people than we had originally agreed. I showed him the booking confirmation, but he still kicked us out at 1 a.m. I definitely don’t recommend it.

A good night’s sleep is what you need, and this place had the basics: a strong hot shower, AC that worked well, and a good bed. Clean enough overall, though the walls could be cleaner. Very good.

I spent three nights here, and the room was never cleaned during my stay. It was the worst experience I had in Israel. The hotel is managed by unprofessional people, so I strongly recommend staying elsewhere.

It’s a quiet, low-key place with considerate guests, and the hostel keeper was incredibly kind and helpful. Street noise can get pretty intense, though the location makes up for it.
