Merom Golan Resort

Just strolling around the grounds was a treat. It felt more like a little village of cozy cabins and rooms than a hotel, with beautiful scenery, clean surroundings, and fresh air. We came in November as the leaves were beginning to fall, picked edible chestnuts, and spotted birch trees. I hear it’s lovely here in snowy winter weather too, so I’d definitely return. One word: wow. The place is beautiful and top quality, highly recommended!

The location won us over, even though finding restaurants during the Sabbath or Jewish holidays can be difficult. My wife and I had a really enjoyable vacation here. The rooms seemed brand new, and the grounds were very clean and well cared for. Staff were attentive and seemed to anticipate what we needed. Breakfast and dinner were good, though Friday night and Saturday morning were noticeably worse than the other meals. Because of the Kosher restrictions, the food is prepared ahead and kept for a long time. I’m unsure about the price. Everything seems costly now, but at that price I expected more privacy and a proper balcony.

The food was great, and the activities for kids and families were good. The pool, though, was awful and needs serious renovation. It doesn’t feel suitable for a hotel, or even for the kibbutz. We arrived Sunday as a couple with two kids. The room was okay and clean when we got it, but it wasn’t cleaned again during our stay. On the first night we found that the kids’ room door couldn’t be opened from the inside. I called reception three times to get it fixed. Each time they said someone would come in five minutes, but it took a few hours before anyone showed up. On departure day, our room key was canceled an hour before checkout. Luckily, one of us was in the room to open the door. What would a parent with an infant do if they were locked outside while their child was locked in? Service was very slow, unempathetic, and unwelcoming. At checkout they asked how our visit was, but didn’t seem to care about the answer. It felt like they asked only out of politeness, or because they’d been told to.

A great place to stay in winter, and a perfect starting point for exploring the Golan Heights with kids.
