Carlton Hotel Nahariya

The spa on the hotel's top floor was horrible and completely unmaintained. There were rats running around by the food and dying bugs in the jacuzzi. Hideous. The staff were very good, though: the receptionist was kind, and the massage itself felt really good.

The parking was the last straw. You might get a spot, but you have to call reception to get in or out, and be ready to wait a long time. The hotel is rundown, with wallpaper coming off, broken things, and one elevator out of order. Staff were shockingly rude and left us waiting; every request seemed complicated, and they didn't seem interested in helping. Housekeeping was much the same. The floors and bed were clean, but the rest wasn't. They also could have told us about the pool and fitness room.

The rooms were clean, and the hotel is well situated. But the staff were very rude, except for the blond Russian lady. On checkout day, they repeatedly banged loudly on our door at 8:30 a.m. Checkout was at 11. We opened it half asleep and still in our pajamas, only to be asked when we planned to leave. How dare they wake guests two and a half hours before checkout?

The food was tasty, and the staff were nice, but they seemed clueless. Every question I asked at the desk got a “not sure” or “I don't know”; I expect them to try to answer or solve a problem. We were paying around 1,500 shekels a night, yet parking was terrible and they seemed to give the limited spaces to workers instead of guests. The rooms were below average, with a broken handle, an old dirty shower handle and cap, scratches, worn-looking furniture, and spider webs on the ceiling. There wasn't a door sign to ask cleaners not to come in. We locked the door when the cleaner was about to enter, but she used her key to open it anyway. I heard her say we'd locked it, and her manager told her to go in regardless. That was very disturbing. At best, this is a two-star hotel and definitely not worth the price.
