Aizawl Guest House

The view is the one good thing about this guest house. The meals cost a lot, but the quality doesn’t match what you get at other restaurants. The taxis they arrange for trips also seem to cost more than the actual fare, so book your own and deal directly with the driver instead of going through the manager. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. Look for another guest house or dorm.

We spent four days here while visiting Aizawl and nearby places, and waking up to the city spread out below us was lovely. The balcony view in the evening was magnificent too. Some rooms have a kitchen and washing machine, with what you need to stay comfortably. They also provide a snack basket, though it costs extra. Breakfast is included. The food was somewhere in the middle, neither very good nor especially bad. I loved the place and had an amazing stay.

The views are easily the best part, and breakfast was quite good. I’m still unsure whether I’d recommend the place, though. Prices felt high for what we got, and other Aizawl stays seemed better value. The owner was stern, but I appreciated how she handled guests bargaining. Staff were sometimes rude and seemed to lack basic hospitality skills. The scooter rental charges by distance rather than using the usual 24-hour setup, which I found inconvenient and odd. When I asked the receptionist about food, she told me, “Go somewhere else and eat, I know you won’t eat here.” It was unnecessary and left a poor impression. Nice views and breakfast couldn’t make up for the high charges, unusual rules, and unfriendly service.

That entrance stone needs attention. I tripped over it and fell, though thankfully I wasn’t badly hurt. Parking also took some effort: we drove here, and because there was just one guesthouse spot, we had to shift the car several times for other vehicles and two-wheelers. We stayed four nights. The top-floor balcony room has sunrise and sunset views, easily the highlight of the stay. The gentleman at reception was professional and helpful, while the other reception staff could use some work on guest communication and a warmer manner. Our room worked fine, but it wasn’t as well kept as the photos and videos we’d seen beforehand led us to expect. The location and views are great, but better room upkeep, parking management, safety, and hospitality would improve things a lot.
