Hotel Indus

Sanjay Thakur, the manager, was wonderful and very helpful during our great stay at Hotel Indus Amritsar. The rooms were comfortable, and the staff were lovely. I'd recommend staying here if you want to be within walking distance of Sri Harmandir Sahib.

The location is directly across from one entrance to the Golden Temple, though the area is surrounded by public toilets. Cars were around, but local auto rickshaws don't come all the way to the hotel. The rooms are extremely small, and the bathroom barely works: the shower was broken, and once the hot water started, it kept running even when I turned the mixer all the way to cold. The TV was also unreliable. After someone changed its settings, YouTube worked briefly, then the settings needed fixing again. At the price charged, I'd look for better options.

The room was tiny and smelled bad, with no ventilation, no working shower, no TV, and a broken toilet seat. We had reserved a king size bed, but were given a queen size one. Since we'd prepaid through makemy trip, we felt there was nothing we could do about it. The reception staff were rude. This was the worst hotel I've ever stayed in.

The Golden Temple, also called Darbar Sahib, is only a two-minute walk away, so the location worked really well for our visit. Breakfast was delicious and felt home-cooked, and they served it with so much care. Mr. Sanjay Thakur, Manjeet Kaur, Gagandeep Kaur, Karandeep Singh, and the rest of the staff made us feel welcome with their warmth and humble manner. It was a wonderful stay, and I'll definitely come back.
