Hotel Kabir Residency

I paid ₹1500 per night for two nights for three people at Hotel Kabir Residency through MakeMyTrip. It’s a basic, fairly clean room with average service, and I don’t think it met the 3-star standard shown on Google. The room, sheets, pillow covers, and towels were clean. Staff behavior was decent, though nothing special. The location is handy for the Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh, and nearby places to eat. The main problem was the drinking water. Packaged water cost extra, and the complimentary RO water in a jug was visibly dirty, with particles floating in it. I reported it at reception and was told it would be replaced, but after half an hour nothing had happened. When I called again, they had forgotten the request. An hour later they changed the jug, but the water was still dirty, so I had to ask for packaged water. Saying that regular filtered water was supplied is false. The water we received was not drinkable by any standard, and this shouldn’t be dismissed with false claims. The hotel’s assertion that they had already told us water wasn’t included in the amenities is also a blatant lie. The geyser took a long time to heat water, the jet spray or bidet didn’t work properly, outside food wasn’t allowed, and check-in was late, at 2:00 PM. I never accused them of hiding the check-in time. I mentioned it so future travelers would know. Turning that into a counter-argument is inaccurate and unnecessary. For the cab service, the hotel quoted ₹1600 for a private Dzire to Attari–Wagah Border and back, toll and parking included, then asked another ₹500 for other Amritsar attractions. Instead, I hired a private auto for ₹1250 return, also including toll and parking. The driver took us to Vaishno Devi Temple, Durgiana Mata Temple, Bada Hanuman Temple, Khalsa College, India Gate, Attari–Wagah Border, and Oswal Cloth Shop, then dropped us at Partition Museum. All of that was covered in the ₹1250. I’m sharing this for transparency, not to hurt the hotel’s business. Prices can change by season and weekends; I traveled on a weekday. Auto drivers can be found at Chowk Purani Lakkar Mandi or Ghee Mandi Chowk. The hotel is okay for budget travelers mainly because of its location and cleanliness, but water, plumbing, and responsiveness need improvement. Better local transport is easy to find outside. The border is about 35 km away, so that part of the hotel’s response is correct. But calling an auto rickshaw unsafe is misleading. From my own experience, it was absolutely safe. I know the differences between transport options, and how a traveler chooses to get around is their own decision, not something the property should misrepresent.

The hotel sits between Baba Deep Singh Gurudwara and the Golden Temple, both easy to reach on foot. It’s new, clean, and well maintained, and the Luxury Triple Room was comfortable at a competitive price. Mr. Harmanpreet, the owner, and his father were sincere and went out of their way to help us feel at ease. They also pointed us toward good local shopping spots. Puneet at reception deserves a mention too, he was courteous, soft-spoken, and welcoming. I’d stay again and recommend it to anyone visiting Amritsar.

Spacious, clean rooms and helpful staff. The Golden Temple is barely a five-minute walk away, and service was prompt. I’d recommend it to other travelers.

The reception was easy to reach, and they kept in touch the day before we arrived, so everything went smoothly. The Golden Temple and Jallianwala Bagh are both very close to the hotel. A good option to consider if you’re visiting Amritsar.
