We left on 27th October, three days before our planned departure, and moved to a nearby hotel that cost ₹600 less per night but was much cleaner and had far better service. Our reservation at Verandah–A Beautiful Story, Near Anjuna Beach, was through MakeMyTrip and non-refundable, but we checked out early because the experience was so poor. The property was advertised online as a “beautiful story” and resort-like stay, but it was grossly misrepresented. It was nowhere near the premium resort it was marketed and priced as. Even tea was ₹105, without service, amenities, or upkeep to justify the cost. Hygiene and maintenance were major problems. The sheets and linen were dirty, with yellow stains, and the fittings had visible rust marks. There was no pest control, especially on the balcony, whose seating was poorly designed. The sink was inconveniently placed and far too high for me as an adult to use comfortably, and a child or shorter person wouldn’t be able to reach it. Water from the bathing area flowed back into the room, an obvious design flaw. Service was cold and mechanical, with no warmth, smiles, or willingness to help. The owner lives on the property, but showed no personal involvement in guest satisfaction. Staff lacked basic courtesy and communication. Room service stopped at 10:30 PM and didn’t resume until after 8 AM, and the parking was quite a distance from the rooms. On two evenings, we called the front desk for water and toilet paper and had to try several times before anyone answered. Once, in the rain, I had to go downstairs for plates and cutlery because nobody was available. I even knew where the plates were and brought them upstairs myself, something a guest shouldn’t have to do in a supposed “resort.” Breakfast was another issue. On our second morning, we went down around 7:45-8 AM expecting it to be available as at most hotels, but no staff were there. We were then told it only starts at 9:15 AM, though nobody had mentioned that at check-in or on the website. I couldn’t take my medicines on time because of it. When we asked about à la carte food, we were initially told it was available, only to be told later there were no seafood or tandoori dishes. The menu was dull and very limited, so we had to go out to eat. The whole stay was a very poor experience, with problems in hygiene, comfort, and service.
