Shantinivas staff were polite, and the restaurant was good, though a bit costly. For more reasonable and delicious food, Shankar Jhantu on the street side is a better choice. The hotel is in a prime spot in Maithon, just 1 min from maithon boat Ghat.

The geyser was weak, and its controls were with reception, so it was irritating to ask every time. They also had neither complimentary water bottles nor breakfast, which feels like the bare minimum when they're charging around 4000 for a four-bedded room. Many food items weren't available, and they said they were mostly seasonal. The worst incident was the night before checkout. The hotel building is connected to the youth hostel building, and around midnight some people from the youth hostel were drinking in our hotel lobby and making a lot of noise. We complained, but they started shouting in the lobby again later, which made my family feel unsafe. This was one of my worst hotel experiences. I highly recommend not staying here.

I’m writing this on our first day because the service has already frustrated me enough to post. The restaurant’s menu lists a lot, but most of it wasn’t available. Even moong or mosoor daal was missing, with a weak explanation that some dishes are seasonal. The prices are high too: 50 gm of plain curd cost Rs 49, while we buy 400 gm for Rs 35. That’s just for comparison. Getting help was difficult. Mobile reception is weak, as they warned us, so we tried the hotel Wi-Fi, but the internet didn’t work. We booked two rooms and one had no telephone receiver, leaving us with no easy way to reach reception. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to friends or relatives, especially families travelling with kids.

The room was clean, but the service was really poor. The hotel controls the AC and geyser, so guests have no choice and you have to keep asking someone to switch them on. I found that very frustrating. Restaurant food is very expensive, and both the mobile network and Wi-Fi are extremely slow.

There’s a large compound for car parking, and the location is another reason I’d stay here. The rooms were decent, and their quality, along with the food’s quality and quantity for the price, felt fair for this area. The main thing to improve is timing: restaurant food should arrive when it’s supposed to.
