Deer Park Eco Home

A luxury heritage experience, with well behaved staff.

The property is lovely, clean, green, and peaceful, but the service made our vacation a spoiler. We booked three rooms and only meant to stay one day, but were told the minimum booking was two days. Given the great reviews and Holi rush, we agreed. The worst part was the staff. They were barely available and unwilling to help with simple things: butter for our little kid, cold drinking water, a cup of tea, or help setting the AC. Every request got a “not available.” They stayed in their room and didn't answer even after repeated calls and knocking, so eventually we stopped asking. When we left, nobody was around to help or even give us the bill. We called the owner, who doesn't live on site, and settled the bill online later. We'd asked for a non spicy meal because we had two children, a toddler and a 7 year old, as well as aged parents with us. Unfortunately, lunch was very spicy, and it was the last meal we ordered there. The costs are high, and the crockery was old and cracked. It needs to be replaced immediately. Careless staff can ruin what could be a good home stay.

It's very close to Deer Park, a kind of deer reserve, and near the heart of Santiniketan. The AC rooms are nice and clean. A good place for a weekend if you want an abode with the Santiniketan vibe.

The deer area has a roomy, jungle-like feel, and the scenery is lovely. You’ll need an entry ticket, and deer roam inside the fenced sections, though some parts of the park have none. If you’re hiring a toto for the day while visiting Bolpur, the driver may include this park with the other popular stops. It’s a nice visit, but if you’re short on time, 15-20 minutes should be enough.
