Taj Chandigarh

We spent 10 days at Taj Chandigarh recently, and from arrival onward the team made us feel at home. Their warmth, care, and attention to detail were there throughout. Every request, even a small one, was handled promptly and with a smile. They seemed to have an answer for everything, and the staff’s kindness made a real difference. The rooms could use an upgrade sometime, though they were clean, comfortable, and well looked after, and that didn’t spoil our stay. Cleanliness, food, service, and the general atmosphere all had that familiar Taj quality. It felt like being looked after by family. Taj and Oberoi are the first names we think of for comfortable, memorable stays in India. Thanks, Taj Chandigarh, for making this visit special. We hope to return. The personal meaning of celebrating my 30th wedding anniversary eve at Taj Chandigarh was clear, but the evening also brought some operational concerns to light. Food consistency and basic dining setup shouldn’t be uncertain in a five-star hotel. Texture, balance, a stable table, the tone of service, and the team’s energy all matter as signs of the hotel’s culture. What stood out most was the tired feel of the service. When attentiveness becomes routine instead of thoughtful, guests notice. Once I shared my feedback, though, senior leadership took it seriously and acknowledged the issue instead of defending it. I appreciated that willingness to correct course. I chose Taj because places with a legacy depend on precision. The brand has stood for discipline, pride, and a carefully shaped experience, as well as luxury. I hope Taj Chandigarh reflects on this and strengthens those basics. Standards can fade quietly when small things are overlooked.

The rooms were clean and the location was good, but the service ruined the stay. At dinner I found a bowl with old food stuck in the corners. I pointed it out, they replaced it, and I took it as a one-off, no worries. But I’d asked for dessert at the end, and everything came together, so I ate it cold. Breakfast the next day was worse. From 10:10 to 10:32 AM I waited for one paratha and tea, with no server coming to my table. I had to get someone’s attention twice, and the food only came after I complained to the manager. The curd with the paratha had a little hair or thread in it, which I showed the server. He accidentally bumped into someone and spilled it on the floor, and it was still there when I left. I had specifically asked for tea with sugar, but it came without sugar, and there wasn’t any on the table. The tea didn’t come with the paratha either, so I asked someone else. After another wait, it arrived half cold. Nobody came back to ask if I wanted anything else, so I left before finishing breakfast. Skipping meals can bring on my migraine, and I never do that for that reason. I never expected this from a reputed brand like Taj. The stay and money felt completely wasted. I’ve learned my lesson and won’t book or recommend it again.

The dining options include Café 17, an all-day place with global food and a casual feel, and Dera, which serves Indian food with regional flavours in a classic setting. Lava Bar has drinks, music, and a relaxed lounge atmosphere. There are also several dining choices, including all-day dining, specialty restaurants, and a bar or lounge. Taj Chandigarh is in central Sector 17A and is considered one of the city’s leading luxury hotels, a flagship five-star property. The reception and shared spaces have classic decor and plenty of room, with neutral colours and brighter accents. The interiors feel elegant without being too showy. Rooms and suites are generally contemporary and comfortable, though some areas may need updating. The hotel has spacious, well-appointed rooms, a pool, fitness centre, spa, business facilities, banquet halls, and event spaces. Guests often praise the central location, the courteous and attentive staff, and rooms that are clean and comfortable, with a solid stay overall.
