The quiet time beside the pool in the sun was heavenly, and our huge, beautiful bedroom felt fit for royalty. The meals, wines and cocktails were exquisite too. We loved every part of our afternoon, evening and the next morning here, though I wish we’d had two or three days to explore the house, gardens, friendly village, lake and surroundings. From arrival to departure, Mr Mahiraj Singh, his sister Ms Swati and their graceful father Mr Singh ( snr), the current Rajah, made us feel like VIPs. We heard fascinating family history stretching back hundreds of years and saw family heirlooms, all against the backdrop of their elegantly restored fortified country house. The hotel was grand and charming, beautifully decorated, relaxing, and warmly hosted, with delicious food. This was one of the highlights of our two-and-a-half-week trip around Rajastan. We’re from London, and it was as good as the best boutique or relais and chateau country place in the UK or France, with the glamour, colour and magic of rural Rajastan and such warm, authentic Indian hospitality. We can’t recommend it highly enough. Huge thanks to you all for making our stay so special. And thanks to all the staff, especially the gentleman who took us on the excellent walking tour, joined us on the jeep tour and served our meals. Mark and Victoria

Swati and family, thank you for letting us travellers share your majestic home. Your kindness and hospitality made a real impression. Your mum and dad are wonderful, and your brothers brought so much fun and energy to our stay. Fellow travellers, make room in your India plans for Chanoud Garh. It was an unmissable life experience.

The three nights we booked gave us time to relax by the pool and enjoy the surroundings, and we were glad we’d taken the advice of reviewers who wished they’d stayed longer. It was a peaceful break in the middle of a hectic tour of big, busy cities, and I highly recommend doing the same. We’d hoped to get out into the countryside and have a village experience on our Rajasthan trip. Chanoud Garh, a terrific little 10-room boutique hotel, exceeded our expectations. It felt authentic, comfortable, personal and enchanting, more like a homestay because the lovely owner family spend so much time with guests. A brilliant idea made our village walks especially memorable: guests mail back paper photos of locals they’ve met. People know about it and enjoy spotting themselves, since they rarely see physical prints with everything on phones. The family gave each of us a couple of photos to take along, which got people talking to us wherever we went. We had delightful encounters we otherwise wouldn’t have had, and especially loved the visit to the local school, where everyone was kind and welcoming. Our group also enjoyed the evening jeep ride with Meiraj, with a tasty G&T along the way. Nimba quickly became our “buddy,” and we had such fun together. Many thanks to all the owners and staff at Chanoud Garh for making this such a special, memorable stay.

This was one of the highlights of our trip. The hosts were so lovely, and the gracious setting offered a wonderful way to experience genuine Indian living. You also get to see how typical Indians live. A fabulous experience, definitely worth seeing.

Thikana Chanod After the bustle of Delhi, Jaipur and Jodhpur, we spent two nights and two and a half days at Chanoud Garh to slow down and reflect on our trip so far. We hadn’t expected the stay to be so interesting, welcoming and heartwarming. Mahi banna and Jai banna have created a wonderful atmosphere, with quality food, a stunning historic building, and plenty of history they’re happy to share. They also maintain a close connection with, and mutual respect for, the countryside around the Haveli and the village and its people. If you can, take the bird-watching jeep tour. And if village life and its people interest you, don’t miss the two-hour village walk. Chanoud Garh is more than a hotel, it’s a philosophy. Absolutely lovely.
