The rooms are a little dated, but they’re maintained well, and the stay felt comfortable and worth the cost. I’d recommend the hotel for business or leisure. I liked the breakfast coffee, especially its rich roasted aroma, and the chai at tea time was a nice touch. The courtyard and pool view gave the place a relaxing, resort-like feel. Inside, the spacious lobby, chandelier, and staircase also made a strong impression.

By Sunday, all of us had severe food poisoning after eating at the hotel, which we strongly believe came from the food there. We’d visited the bar on Saturday evening for drinks and dinner with a few close friends. We ordered the seafood mixed platter, but sent it back because the fish smelled strongly foul and seemed clearly stale. The drinks were served well, but the food was extremely disappointing and unacceptable. I called the hotel right away and spoke to the Bar Manager, who responded casually despite how serious this was. I was told the Food & Beverage Manager would get back to me. It’s now been more than two days, and nobody has called or followed up, despite my communications. I often visit premium Chennai hotels, including The Westin, Taj Coromandel, and Sheraton Grand, so I have a fair expectation of food and service at a Marriott property. This food safety lapse and lack of management response are alarming for a Marriott hotel. The experience fell far below brand standards, more like a roadside establishment than a premium hospitality property. I’m deeply disappointed by the management’s approach and the lack of accountability. Please explain how this lapse happened, why nobody has followed up, and what corrective steps are being taken to prevent it happening again.

During breakfast, a staff member asked to take a photo with me. I didn’t refuse then, but I never agreed to have my image used in advertising. I hope the hotel won’t use it for promotion without my permission. I was there for one night, and the room didn’t match the advertisement. It smelled strongly musty, with visible mold growing on the silicone seal around the bathroom’s glass sliding door. The odor clung to my pajamas so badly that I eventually threw them away. The breakfast offered a good range of local dishes, but early that afternoon I began feeling unwell. I had stomach pain and diarrhea for the next two days. Cleanliness, maintenance, and guest comfort all need a lot of improvement.

The pool area was lovely and well kept, a good place to relax. The hotel itself is an older property, though it’s maintained in good condition. Staff were courteous, helpful, and ready to assist, and breakfast had a wide selection covering almost every cuisine and preference. The one letdown was that the steam bath wasn’t available during my stay, which was inconvenient. Still, I had a pleasant time at Le Royal Méridien Chennai and would recommend it. I’d consider staying again.
