The Raintree, St. Mary's Road

We had a lovely time at the rooftop bar, which sits above sea level. Since it was December and the weather was cool, it felt cozy, and Shantanu looked after us well. The staff were quick and good overall. Our first room shared an adjoining connection with another room, and the music from those guests kept us from sleeping peacefully. The hotel changed our room, though. We had a beautiful stay and I recommend the Raintree. Worth the price!

I had a pleasant stay before at Raintree Anna Salai, so I was disappointed that my visit to Raintree St Mary’s Road turned out to be my worst experience with the Raintree brand. After coming straight from the airport, I found the front desk service unwelcoming and unprofessional, which surprised me given the hotel’s claimed hospitality standards. When I left, nobody helped with the door or offered any assistance. Those basic gestures were missing. I regret choosing this property and expected much better from a hotel in this category. I hope management reviews what happened and improves service for guests. A gentle reminder for Malaysians and Singaporeans: these people don't treat you well, so please avoid this kind of hotel.

The prime location was the one real plus for us. There was construction nearby, and our room was dusty, perhaps because it had been unused for a while or the AC ducts hadn't been cleaned in some time. After four days, my wife and I both had dust allergies. The large bed was badly worn on one side, with the springs gone, and I nearly strained my back sleeping there. Wi-Fi also cost extra. Breakfast was extremely crowded, more like a local eatery than a luxury hotel, and there seemed to be more guests than the hotel could comfortably handle. Staff were around but usually unhelpful, declining most requests. The buffet was overpriced for average food. For a place rated five stars and known for celebrity visits, I expected a lot more.

I regret choosing Raintree St Mary’s Road. Having stayed at Raintree Anna Salai before, where I had a much better visit, I found this one the opposite and the worst experience I've had with the Raintree brand. I arrived straight from the airport and got poor, unwelcoming treatment from the front desk, without the basic hospitality I expected of a four-star hotel. On departure, nobody opened the door or offered help either. It doesn't live up to a claimed five-star standard, and felt worse than a three-star budget hotel. I'll seriously reconsider booking here. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and improves the service.
