Aroor Residency

Breakfast was the one good part of my recent two-night visit. There were only three choices, bread with butter and jam, idli with sambar and chutneys, or puttu with kadla, but everything was fresh and tasty. I had idli one morning and puttu the next, and they also brought cut fruit when I asked. I’d stayed here once before for a night, and then it seemed reasonable for the price and close to my workplace. This time, maintenance and service had noticeably slipped. After a long day of travel and work, I found there was no hot water. I had to make do with a quick cold wash. Reception said maintenance meant hot water wouldn’t be available for two days, but that should have been mentioned ahead of time. The bathroom window in that room had no proper lock or bolt and was big enough for someone to get through, which worried me. Reception agreed to move me, but arranging the change took more than 30 minutes. I was exhausted, so I rested. In the morning I tried the kettle in the new room, but it didn’t work. I waited until around 6 a.m. to ask for another, and that took 15 more minutes to arrive. Then I came back that evening to find the room hadn’t been cleaned and no drinking water had been replenished, even though I’d turned on the clean room switch. When I called reception, they asked if I had told housekeeping directly, which defeats the point of the switch. I asked them to clean while I went to dinner. The room was only partly done when I returned: used cups were still there and the trash hadn’t been taken away. After the drop in upkeep and service, I’m not sure I’d stay again unless things improve significantly.
