The Mellows Homestay

The view, peaceful surroundings, and privacy made our two-night stay worthwhile, despite the average food. Meals were basic, with no local cuisine like other homestays nearby, and lunch wasn't available, so we had to drive about 30 minutes to find a decent restaurant. The staff were punctual and helpful, and they arranged a cosy campfire on the cold evenings. Our balcony looked across acres of coffee plantations toward a mountain range. These are called sunrise rooms, but clouds kept us from seeing the sunrise; perhaps it's visible in summer. The room was clean, and parking was ample. The property is around 15 minutes from the main road, up an elevated mountain stretch on a fully paved but narrow road, about 10-15 ft wide. You may need to adjust when another vehicle comes by, though the drive through coffee estates gets more scenic with each turn. Deviramma Devi mountain peak is just behind the property and sacred to locals, with poojas held during certain months. Hiking up is restricted, but the view of the peak from the property is stunning. Deviramma Devi temple is a 10-minute downhill drive away. From the temple grounds below, we could even spot the property, which was a delightful moment.

We had a peaceful, memorable stay high up on the mountain. From our Sunrise Cottage balcony, the sunrise was beautiful, with birds chirping in the background. The polite, helpful staff served tasty homely food and let us take it to our room. Before closing the food counter, they checked with each room to make sure everyone had dinner. One staff member also took us on a lovely short evening walk through the coffee plantation. A few things could be improved: the towels, and the dust under the tables. A swimming pool would be nice too. Also, watch out for monkeys visiting between 8 AM and 11 AM. Keep doors and windows closed then, as they're quite sneaky.

Birdsong, peacocks calling, and monkeys hooting made the balcony views from sunset through sunrise feel dreamy and worth every penny. The homecooked food was delicious, and the service was great. The rooms were clean and well kept.

The owner's hospitality was outstanding, and every small detail was taken care of, so we felt comfortable and welcome. The cottage was clean, well maintained, and peaceful in its natural surroundings, with a lovely mix of comfort and charm. We had an amazing stay and will definitely come back with family. I'll recommend it to my friends too. If you're after a relaxing getaway with excellent service, this place is a great choice.
