Hotel Sovereign

The veg food was superb, five stars from me, and breakfast was good too. The location works well, with the beach just a few minutes away, and parking is available. The room itself was decent, but the thick pillows and mattress were uncomfortable. Service took repeated calls. Getting our luggage from the room to the car took over 15 minutes, so I ended up carrying it myself. You have to ask each time for the AC remote to adjust the temperature. The front desk could be more polite and attentive. We also couldn’t sleep because of wedding noise from the nearby road, and our room was on the first floor.

The unlimited thali is great value, and the all vegetarian menu has plenty of variety. The food tastes consistently good, and the dining area was kept clean even with the crowds. It’s a pleasant enough place for a family meal, and the staff stayed polite and professional. The trouble is the heat and the lack of power backup. The AC is poor, and we were sweating through the meal. During a recent visit the lights went out, so we ate for 10-15 minutes by phone flashlight. There can be a wait too. The food and hygiene are strong, but with basic comforts like working AC and backup power missing, I wouldn’t choose it for a relaxed family dinner. Go for the flavors if you’re ready for a warm room, and keep your phone charged. Probably best to avoid the hottest part of the day.

The rooms were in awful shape. The beds were in poor condition, and the promised extra bed turned out to be a squeaky one in terrible shape. The bathroom and toilet weren’t clean, either. Its transparent window wouldn’t close properly, which left a privacy concern. We tried the hotel because its restaurant is good. A mini fridge was listed in the online booking but wasn’t provided, so in the hot weather we kept going downstairs to buy cold water. The location is great and the restaurant is good, but the rooms were so bad that I wouldn’t visit.

We come back every year to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and it’s become a special place for us. The atmosphere is lovely for a family meal and making memories together. The food is delicious all the way through. If you’re after pure vegetarian food in Daman, this is a favorite of mine.
