Dekeling Resort

The room heater deserves a mention, and the rooms are lovely, with clear views of both Kanchanjanga and the city. It's an affordable hotel on Mall Road, beside Ramada Hotel. Highly recommended.

The rooms were good, but there's no lift and the hotel is on the third floor. The staff weren't pleasant either. I'd avoid staying here.

The only real plus is the location, near keventar and glenary. I stayed one night, from 19 dec to 20 dec. The hotel is on the third floor, reached by very steep stairs. In this hilly area even an ordinary uphill walk makes you breathless, and reaching the third floor left me so out of breath that I had to sit for 10 minutes to recover. The place gave me negative vibes. anish staff was rough and kept disturbing our privacy, coming into the room again and again with baseless reasons. He'd say to call if we needed anything, then return 10 minutes later to ask if we wanted water or something. They don't provide basics like toothpaste and a toothbrush. When I asked for toothpaste in the morning, anish said I had to pay 10rs first before he'd bring it.

The family suit I stayed in for a few days had a great view through its big glass window, and I especially liked the common lobby areas. Hotel Dekeling is in one of the best locations in Darjeeling, and the rooms are quite good for their price. Staff behavior and room cleanliness were also good. The kitchen food is average. The only drawback is the steep staircase. The hotel occupies floors three through five, so you have to climb up to reach it. I wouldn't recommend it for older people with knee pain. Otherwise, I liked it.
