I paid the full amount through a website associated with this homestay more than a month before check-in, after booking a room, but then found my reservation had been cancelled at the last minute. When I asked what happened, the owner was rude and said it wasn't his problem, claiming he hadn't intentionally confirmed the booking. How could he not know the room at his own property had been confirmed for over a month? When I asked about getting a refund, he shrugged it off as the website's responsibility and offered no solution. This was an extremely frustrating and unprofessional experience. I expect the owner may respond by trying to justify the situation, as he has with other reviews. If he's running a small business, he should at least address the problem courteously instead of dismissing it. Future customers, please avoid this homestay and book elsewhere. 0/10. Edit on owner’s response: The booking request was sent on 26th Nov, and I paid the full booking amount on 27th, contrary to the owner's claim. As I expected, the response showed me someone I consider utterly incompetent and dishonest, with no respect for his business and too focused on the property's 4.5 stars. I hope he learns some professionalism for the sake of his customers.

The owners are great people, and my three-day stay was one of my best experiences. The rooms are quiet, clean, and have WiFi and a geyser, plus a view of the whole hills from the window. Smriya homestay sits quite a bit above Darjeeling main road, which can be a drawback, but that climb also keeps it peaceful and lets you enjoy the view.

The food was a real highlight, some of the best home-style meals I’ve had while travelling in North India. The host family were caring and lovely, and even helped arrange an early cab to Tiger Hill and shared tips for local sightseeing. Smriya Homestay is easy to reach and close to the city centre, and my room was clean and a good fit for the price. I loved my stay.

I ended up staying at Smriya Homestay after my prepaid three-day booking through easemytrip was cancelled because of EMT’s mistake. The owner first suggested a nearby homestay for one night, then I moved here the next day. The room was very good and super clean, with a geyser. It’s about a 1.5-2 km walk to Mall Road, around half a kilometre to Darjeeling zoo, and about 1.7 km to the bus stand. Food is available on order and was delicious. I had dinner at the owner’s home.

The owners are friendly and helpful, the Wi-Fi works well, and the food price seemed reasonable. But the rooms are very small and don’t look like the photos, and the views are blocked. Getting anywhere means going uphill or downhill, and the place is very steep, so it’s a poor choice if you’re not fit or have trouble with slopes. Given the misleading impression, I found the room rate too high.
