We were a group of 25 and ended up having Maggi we bought outside for dinner on both nights. The buffet salad smelled bad, and the roti was fit for a dog, not people. The property itself is good and the interior looks nice, but it's kept like a cheap railway-station hotel, almost like a horror-film bungalow. The lavatories were as dirty as public toilets, the toilet seat was broken, and two room lights didn't work. The TV was supposedly working, but every channel showed the same picture and had sound like a switched-off Tata sky. Welcome to HOTEL SHALOM PALACE.

We liked staying here with family. The property is well kept and sits right on the main road, with the toy train station just a minute away on foot. There's a large parking lot across from the hotel. The suite rooms on the second floor are quite large and have a great view, while the ground-floor rooms are smaller and deluxe standard. The buffet dinner was pretty good.

In the morning there was no light, and the room heater we'd paid for stopped working for 5-6 hours. Water kept running out, especially during the crucial 6am-8am hours, and the buffet was terrible. They had no lift and seemed to have packed in more people than the place could handle. I stayed at hotel drift in Gangtok, where the service was much better for less money and the staff seemed much better too. Please choose another Darjeeling hotel.

We got complimentary breakfast and dinner, and there was a buffet with plenty of food choices. The rooms were comfortable and gave us a great view of Darjleeing. Staff were friendly and happy to bring extra amenities when we asked.

The buffet offered variety, but the ingredients were low quality. All seven of us had stomach aches after eating there, and two people got food poisoning. Food gets 1 star from me. The rooms were spacious and good, 4.5 stars, though the bathroom was small, 3 stars. Service was 4 stars. It's only about a 10-minute walk from the main market, handy for evening shopping. Security seemed good, with cameras on every floor.
