It’s a heritage property, a huge mansion guests can explore, with a lovely garden behind it. The rooms are good, the washroom has all the amenities, and the management and staff are well behaved. The location is right at the Darjeeling Mall. The dining staff were very rude and not tourist friendly, which needs attention. We had a bitter experience with the food, so it may be better to eat elsewhere. Also, don’t book a car through the hotel. They charged more and gave us poor advice about local visits. The tourist taxi booth is a two minute walk away, and booking directly there would have saved us Rs.3000, which we lost because of the bad advice.

We stayed for three nights, from 19 May to 21 May 2026, and found the price very competitive for such a well located hotel. The staff were coordinated, polite, and ready to help with guests’ needs. Room service was prompt, and they quickly arranged a wheelchair when we needed one.

The location in Chowk Bazaar is convenient, but the area stays noisy late into the night. Traffic and market sounds made it hard to sleep peacefully. The property does have striking British-era architecture, vintage furniture, and real heritage potential. It also has a lot of character, but the worn furnishings and deteriorating interiors feel neglected rather than atmospheric. The hotel trades on its history without doing enough to preserve it, and it feels like the legacy is being milked instead of cared for. A heritage hotel should feel historic, not abandoned. Cleanliness was a major disappointment. There were pigeon droppings on the curtains, sofas that seemed to have mould and fungus settled in, stained surfaces, damp walls, musty smells, and washrooms in a condition I’d rather not describe. Basic hygiene seemed like an afterthought. The photos online are extremely misleading and look very little like the actual property, which comes across as poorly maintained. The hotel also tells stories about being “haunted” or “spirited.” The only thing haunting the place, frankly, is the lack of maintenance. A ghost might at least have added some entertainment. Guests are paying a premium for this experience. It’s frustrating because the architecture, location, and heritage value could make it one of Darjeeling’s most unique stays if the owners or managers cared about restoration and upkeep. Instead, the wasted potential is hard to ignore.

The hospitality was exceptional, and I enjoyed my stay. It’s a heritage building, but I didn’t have any unusual or “spooky” experiences. Those stories seem to be unsubstantiated rumors.

There’s an old world charm to this worn down colonial British-era Bengali house, and I could get used to the cracks in its architecture. The service and staff were another matter. The hotel is inside Mall Road, where no cab can reach. We had five or six bags, and while we stood on the road a staff member told us to hire a coolie. We refused, so he eventually carried them himself. At checkout, we wanted to leave at 6am, but no staff were available before 7:30am, so we had to use a coolie. The rooms were fine, but the shower pressure was poor. We had to ask for a kettle, blankets, and water, and the phone didn’t work, so I had to get a staff member’s number. There’s no kitchen either, which means going out for food or staying without it. So, yes, the property has charm, but...
