The hotel was nearly empty while I was there, and the restaurant wasn't operating. That may explain the poor upkeep, but it doesn't excuse the neglect. My room wasn't clean and had mosquitoes, which made the stay uncomfortable and raised health and safety concerns. The food was abysmal too. When I complained about its taste and freshness, Sanjay Prabhakar at the front desk was rude and dismissive, said the food was fine, and implied the problem was my taste. This was completely unprofessional. From arrival, Hotel Shiva Residency fell short of basic hospitality standards. The poor food, unhygienic room, and staff behavior made for a thoroughly unpleasant stay. I can't recommend it, and hope management takes these problems seriously and makes improvements.

The dinner cost a little more than I expected, but it was really tasty, and the stay felt worth the money. We had a very good visit, with staff who were polite and quick at their jobs. If you're after a fun stay at a reasonable price, this place is a good option.

Getting around was easy, with transport readily available just outside and good links to the city. The staff were friendly and polite, and the management was helpful throughout. We ate well for a reasonable price, too. It felt comfortable for women traveling alone, and the warm hospitality made our stay pleasant. I'd recommend it to anyone visiting Dehradoon.

The room and bathroom were on the small side, but clean and well looked after. I liked the toiletries, which smelled nice and seemed good quality, and the bottled Vedica by Bisleri water was good too. Room service was prompt, and they arranged cabs for less than the going rate, based on prices I'd checked with five or six agencies. I'd recommend the hotel and would like to try their place in Mussorie next time. I did have to keep reminding the staff about our checkout dates and what our package covered, since they didn't seem to have that information straight. That's why I'm taking off a star.

The housekeeping staff were good, but I also found them dishonest. The room wasn't up to date, and the AC and lamps didn't work. The fridge was broken and smelled really bad. Service overall wasn't good, and honestly, I wouldn't want to stay here.
