Bed & Chai Guest House

I’ve been coming here for a few years. It’s expensive for me, but there aren’t many options in Delhi, especially since a lot of places closed after Covid. Alfred, the manager, is what makes this hotel so much better. His smile, the way he talks, and his whole manner make the place great. If he left, I wouldn’t come back either. I hope he’s paid well because he’s so helpful and sweet, and deserves a good salary for all his work. It’s a real advantage having someone like him on the staff.

The check-in staff were kind and helpful, and the location is decent for the price. But the room was a disappointment. Pigeons lived inside the AC, which didn’t work. They were cute, but their cooing and scratching kept waking us at night. Mosquitoes were everywhere too. We killed dozens each day and kept the windows shut, yet still woke up covered in itchy bites. The shower only heated when all the bathroom lights were off, and even then it worked about half the time. Breakfast was disappointing as well. On several days we sat through the whole two-hour breakfast period without the cook ever showing up. The website photos weren’t accurate either. Our bed had a plywood headboard that could give you splinters if you touched it the wrong way.

The room had such bad seepage that I started having an asthma attack after only a short time inside. I’d arrived in Delhi at midnight and had nowhere else to go, so I tried staying for five minutes after they said I could leave and get a refund if needed. I begged for another room or my money back so I could book somewhere else, but the night guard misbehaved with me. I had to leave at 1 a.m. with nowhere to go and spent the night in a coffee shop. The next day, the booking platform told me the guesthouse had refused a refund because I’d sat in the room for five minutes. They showed no regard for women and were extremely uncooperative. The service was awful, including Satish, the manager, who refused to help because it was late at night.

The rooms have pests and seepage, and they also promise refunds without issuing them. The staff are completely unhelpful and misbehave with women. The manager and night guard were the worst. If you complain about anything, they may kick you out in the middle of the night.
