Hotel Grand Godwin

For a short visit, this hotel worked well, especially with a train to catch or plans to explore the CP area. It’s within walking distance of the railway station and reasonably priced. The neighborhood isn’t much to look at, but since the hotel is off the main road there wasn’t much honking, so I slept well.

We arrived exhausted after the long ride from Jaipur, and the receptionist was kind. Check-in went smoothly, and he put our receipt in an envelope, which felt professional. Then we got to room 309. There was dust and dirt all over the floor, even a nutshell under the table, and the kettle still had water in it and looked dirty. I had to wonder whether it had been cleaned since the last guests. The extra quilt for my mom was dusty and looked old too. Why was so much of the room dirty? I called reception, and someone came to mop the floor. After that, I wiped down all the tables and chairs myself with wet alcohol wipes. It was an awful first visit to Delhi and this hotel.

As a woman traveling alone from Bangladesh, I felt safe and comfortable throughout my stay. The staff treated me respectfully and were attentive and supportive. Service was excellent, and I had a very pleasant time here. I’d definitely recommend the hotel.

After 25 years away, this was my first trip back to India, and Paharganj was a great base for my three nights. The room was tidy, and the rainshower was the best I’ve had in a long time. Everyone was efficient and genuinely friendly, from the front desk to the smiling doorman. I’ll stay again.
