OYO 26693 Tsampa House

The special Indian vegetarian menu was a highlight. You can order it to the room, and half a portion is enough for two, so that's a five out of five. The regular veg selection has little variety, though. We couldn't get a double room, there was no help with luggage, room service was poor, and the front desk wasn't user-friendly. Overall, I'd give it two stars.

Getting around the narrow street of MT is easy, which may suit you if that's what you're after. The room itself is small and the AC struggles to cool it. They charge more than average, yet use an old-fashioned key system that seems designed to save the hotel electricity. That doesn't seem reasonable.

The location and elevator were the only positives for me. The desk staff seemed clueless about room assignments and twice gave me a room that was already occupied. Imagine someone walking into your room and belongings, or entering your private space by mistake. Their lack of attention made the place feel unsafe. My first room had a broken refrigerator and missing lights. The second smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, since smoking seems allowed throughout the hotel. The TV cable worked intermittently, and there were lots of cockroaches. Staff also mishandled our luggage in the elevator, which went over its weight limit and dropped to the ground with a loud bang. It was frightening. I won't stay here again.

It's clean and new, with a kettle, fridge, and AC, and costs less than many places. The food takes ages to arrive, but it's very good once it does. I'd definitely stay again.
