Elephant Valley

I liked the well-kept property, the restaurant, and the good food. The hills and a stream running through the grounds make it a lovely spot for nature lovers. The part I didn’t like was the entrance, right beside a village and surrounded by houses.

Mr. Mani and Mr. Nitish were very helpful throughout, and the hospitality was great. We had a peaceful, enjoyable stay in calm, lovely surroundings. It’s a bit far from actual kodaikanal, but I still think it’s worth staying there and relaxing.

A lovely, quiet place in the kodaikanal mountains and forest. It’s a beautiful break from city life.

The meals were a real highlight. They served dosas, omelette, poha, sandwiches in an English breakfast style, tea and coffee. The dosas were so light they felt like little bites of cloud. Our granite cottage had stone on the outside and wood inside, giving it a rustic, cozy feel. It was about 700m from reception. Some people might find that inconvenient, but we enjoyed the walk through the forested cross walk to the dining area and valley, over a swaying but sturdy bridge across the river, then along a stone path over grass to the cottage. On our first night in 2019, my fiance and his friend went ahead while we waited at the dining area. Heavy rain came down, and it got completely dark. Someone brought us umbrellas and walked with a torch in one hand and an umbrella in the other. As we crossed the valley, my friend slipped and hurt her ankle. I helped her to the bridge, where the rain had made it slippery. My friend and I nearly fell too, but caught the ropes and made it across by holding on. At the far end, the guard told us to step back because he sensed a wild animal. His torch picked out an elephant’s yellow eye. It had initially kept its eyes closed and opened them for just two seconds, which is when he spotted it. The guard escorted us back, and we stayed in another room. I was there with my fiance and friends, and it was a fabulous experience.
