Oval Palace

We were six college students far from home, and the place made us feel at home. The staff were great, even letting us leave our bags after checkout without booking another room. We tipped him for the help. I’d stay again if I get the chance. Room 506 was really spacious, and the view over the canal right in front was amazing. It felt very safe. You can easily order from Zomato or Uber Eats, and the in-house food service was acceptable. The pool looked great, though I didn’t try it. The bathrooms in all three rooms were great. They had OYO body wash, hand wash, and body lotion, all with a really nice smell.

The rooms were awful. Booking.com still showed the reservation as confirmed, but late at night they cancelled it, and the property owner said they weren’t affiliated with Booking.com.

The rooms were good enough for the price, which was the only thing that saved the stay. I was disappointed by the rest. The hotel is hard to reach and sits beside a stagnant water canal, and the premises seem poorly maintained. They call a room a hall, but it’s actually a swimming pool changing room where classes are held, so it can’t be used for an event. When I visited, the pool was full of disinfectant chlorine.

The staff were really nice and helpful, and the rooms can have a good view if you get a Lakeview room. They’re exceptionally cheap, around Rs.500 with breakfast included. But despite being listed as a flagship hotel in Oyo, it doesn’t have that level of quality. It’s away from Kochi’s main centres, and the rooms need serious maintenance.
