Mr. Pravat, the manager, made a big difference to our trip. He looked after us throughout the stay and personally helped arrange our Sikkim tour package, which kept things stress-free and enjoyable. His assistant was polite, supportive, and quick to help as well. The hotel’s pure vegetarian food suited us perfectly, and both the taste and hygiene were better than we expected. Our stay at Hotel Potala (Jain Hotel) was delightful. I’d recommend it to vegetarian families and couples visiting Sikkim. Thanks to the whole team for making the trip memorable.
This isn't a Jain hotel. The facilities were very poor: the shower and geyser didn't work, the bed linen and bathrobe (towel) were old, and the TV was out of order. The service team and managers didn't respond properly. I strongly recommend against staying here.
We were travelling as a family with two children, and had a very bad experience. There was no water at night. When we asked for a solution, they told us to move rooms in the middle of the night instead of restoring water to ours. None of the rooms have fans either. We ordered lunch before our bus departure, and although they first agreed, it arrived very late. They then refused to pack it for us and charged for all the food, including what we never got to eat or take away.
For a budget-priced hotel these days, the cost is hard to beat, and the staff are very customer-friendly. The food is good and cheap at the restaurant, so my tip is to book a room without breakfast or meals unless the add-on is only 100 or 200 more per person. The 6- and 3-bedded rooms are better positioned, while the 4-bedded room has no windows or sunlight, which could be rough in winter. You may have to be lucky to get a good room. There’s no view from the room except the next building, if there’s a window. Management should install bigger geysers for rooms with 3+ beds, since hot water runs out after one person bathes.
There was a strong, unpleasant smell throughout the room from water seepage. The rooms were in very poor condition, with no fan and a bad bathroom. Better to look at nearby hotels in this area.
