The Lindsay Cheu Den

The views from the rooms are the one thing the hotel lacks, but it makes up for that elsewhere. The rooms are luxurious, the service impeccable, and the staff very polite. There’s a wide variety of food, including salads, which surprised me since this was the first hotel I’d stayed at that served them. There’s also a well-stocked bar for people who drink alcohol.

The staff really made our stay. Everyone was thoughtful and went out of their way to keep us comfortable. Our room was spacious, well kept, and had a traditional Sikkimese feel. We spent two nights at The Lindsay Cheu Den and had a great time. I’d happily return.

The rooms are nice, but the service was awful. They only supplied hot water from 6 to 10 in the morning and 7:30 to 9:30 in the evening, and it took about an hour after they started the boilers at 6 am and 7:30 pm to heat properly. We shouldn’t have to keep checking the water every five minutes, especially in Gangtok, where they were bargaining over hot water. We asked for an extra bed and got a thin blanket for it, while the regular bed had a proper one. The pictures showed chairs on the balcony, but there weren’t any.

The market is nearby, and shared taxis are easy to find outside. Hot water was offered in the mornings, and in the evenings too if we asked. We stayed four nights, found the rooms spacious and good, and liked the food. The staff were courteous. Good value for money.
