The Shire Homestay

Karma was a warm, polite, and helpful host, and the courtyard had a lovely view of Mt. Kanchenjunga. The homestay was great value for money. Our room was spacious, spotless, and well cared for, and the home-cooked food was a highlight. His mother’s cookies were especially outstanding.

Mr. Karma knows a lot about Sikkimese history and traditions, and can guide you well on your tour. He’s an amazing host, and the whole family are warm and lovely people. It’s one of the finest homestays in Gangtok, with a beautiful property. I’ll definitely stay here when I’m back in Sikkim.

The hosts were polite and trustworthy, and the food was wonderful. The flowers and views were mesmerizing, and the place itself is amazingly beautiful. It’s also conveniently close to MG Marg. One of the most beautiful places to stay in Gangtok, and I’ll plan to visit again.

We felt at home at The Shire Homestay, Gangtok, from the start. Mr Karma and his family were incredibly warm and welcoming, especially Norkey aunty, Karma ji’s mother. Each evening she’d ask how our day had gone, listen with real interest to our travel plans, and check what we wanted for the next day’s meals. The family clearly cares about how guests feel, and those little gestures meant a lot. We were there as a couple from 30th December 2025 to 6th January 2026. The home-cooked meals were fresh, delicious, and generous, and they asked about our preferences ahead of time. They were especially comforting in the cold weather. The homestay is in a quiet residential area, yet MG Marg is only a 10-12 minute walk away, handy for evening strolls, shopping, and cafés. If the sky is clear, you can get an amazing view of Kanchenjunga from the balcony. Our room was cosy, clean, and well maintained throughout. A lovely choice for couples, families, and travellers who value comfort, good food, and genuine hospitality.
