Zero to One stay - Hotel Khandroling (HKL)

For the low price, the location makes this decent value. The rooms and cleanliness weren't great, though I could accept that at this rate. The problem was being told breakfast was included, then hearing from the owner at checkout that tea cost extra. I'd expect tea to be part of a complimentary breakfast. If it's chargeable, please make that clear to guests.

The package trip was poorly organized and didn't meet even basic expectations. What was said beforehand was very different from what happened after we arrived. I'd suggest communicating in writing, so you can raise your concerns if he tries to bully you. When we complained about the room and trip, the superintendent/manager harassed us instead of sorting anything out. His conduct was unprofessional and unacceptable, and for a while we considered legal action. We were there for a few days to relax after a busy year, though, and eventually changed our minds. The rooms were also in deplorable shape, dirty and with a persistent foul smell. The stay at Hotel Khandroling was extremely disappointing, especially for families or anyone hoping for a pleasant visit. I strongly advise against staying here. Look elsewhere.

I had a good experience here. A double room costs ₹1200 per day, and a room for four is ₹2000. Wifi is available, and they offer reasonably priced tour packages for East Sikkim, North Sikkim, and West Sikkim. It's just a two-minute walk from MG Marg.

From the room, you might even see kanchunjangha if you're lucky. The main issue we had was room cleanliness. It's an affordable hotel in a prime spot, about five minutes on foot from MG marg, and the staff were really good and quick to respond.
