Hotel Brahmaputra Residency

The restaurant serves good food, though its menu is limited. It’s vegetarian, and the restaurant staff are very kind. I would have given five stars if the receptionist had treated us better. We’d traveled 2500 km, but he acted like he didn’t care and just wanted us to go away. We had booked three rooms and asked to check out of just one room an hour late, but he flatly refused. They kept banging on the doors telling us to vacate and sent a cleaner. They also made up a story that customers were shouting because they needed a room, even though five or six rooms were still unoccupied and nobody was waiting. It was a bad end to the trip.

The next morning, dirty water came out of every tap. The front desk said flushing it several times should clear it, but no staff member came to do that. At 68, I flushed the taps more than 25 times myself and left them running until the water was clean. They also ignored my request for two bottles of water, so I went out to buy them. Repair work was going on too, and the drilling kept us from sleeping. The staff never seemed to smile, and their manner made me think of people working under KimJong Un. The booking had been made through the hotel's own webpage. They admitted the page belonged to them and that they'd received similar complaints before, but said they hadn't received my payment and that there was no payment option. When I asked whether they had any control over their webpage, I got no answer. With both of us senior citizens and carrying a lot of luggage, I had little choice but to pay Rs. 9,000 again. Gpay and our bank suggested contacting Cyber Crime, though I don't have much hope. Then, to my horror, someone sent me a WhatsApp copy of a letter their employee had written to management about being insulted and mistreated. I don't know why they sent it to me. Was it to intimidate me? I kept copies of the messages and payment receipts. The management later claimed they'd emailed to ask for payment details, even though I'd already sent the details on WhatsApp and they'd replied. It felt like a standard bluffing response. They still haven't removed the payment option from their webpage. I just want to stop another unsuspecting customer from becoming a victim. We'd found good hotels and kind people throughout the North East, but this place made our stay horrible. I wouldn't recommend it even to my enemy.

The staff were helpful and behaved well, and the place was very clean. Hotel Brahmaputra Residency is the best hotel in Guwahati, Assam.

I paid for the MAP plan, but at dinner they said starters and bottled water would cost extra. The dinner choices were very limited too. I wouldn't book here.
