The ghazal nights were a real highlight, adding music to a city known for its gharanas. The food took a while, but it was delicious, and breakfast had a generous spread that still gave local dishes the spotlight. Expect orders to take time, especially when the ghazal nights are on, so it helps to go with the music’s pace. Tansen has ample parking and neat rooms, though the rooms are looking rugged and the property needs maintenance. It’s a government property with a top spot in the city, within walking distance of the railway station and eateries such as Indian Coffee House. Renovations were underway during our visit, and several central and state dignitaries had left on the day we arrived. The entrance and corridors were decent, and the staff were courteous. For a place owned and run by MPTB, they’re doing a fab job.

We were there on 16th Feb 2026, and getting around to Gwalior’s attractions was easy since the hotel is right in the center of the city. The rooms were neat and clean, and the courteous, efficient staff provided excellent service. Our stay was good. Breakfast and dinner were passable.

Dinner came with old songs from a local singer, and that part was good. The service was so-so, though. They rented a few rooms to a wedding party, and the loud music went on for much of the day and night. They didn’t seem to care about the other guests.

The staff’s polite, professional manner really touched our hearts ❤. Tansen Residency was very well arranged, with clean, comfortable, cosy rooms and all amenities. The food was excellent and served generously, and breakfast was prepared with great care.

A peaceful, grand-looking hotel in Gwalior, in a neighbourhood where top brass government officials live. The restaurant is well maintained and the food is delicious. A good option for travellers.
