The food was only average, the place felt dusty and poorly maintained, and the prices were far too high for what we got. A polite, sensible woman on staff was the one bright spot. The management, though, came across as rude and dismissive, and the whole visit left me feeling disrespected and unwelcome. They repeatedly gave us the impression that Suroth Mahal Hotel was meant only for foreign visitors, yet they had accepted our booking. If that really is their preference, they should say so clearly beforehand instead of treating Indian guests this way after arrival. As it stands, it feels like a place better suited to foreign tourists, and I can't recommend it. Foreign guests should book only if they feel that's ethical.

The building is 600 years old, so of course parts of it feel aged. The bathrooms were spacious and worked fine, and they don't need to be modern or fashionable. One morning, monkeys came over to tease the dogs, which had us laughing. The first evening we dressed up as a group and watched the sunset from the roof, then enjoyed cold beers and music. The next night brought a delicious dinner made with local ingredients, followed by a garden dance party led by local dancers. The owner came to meet us, too. With Diwali approaching, there was a little shooting show and fireworks, and flower petals floated in the pond. Walking in was a huge surprise, a real wow. I have such lovely memories of the place. Thanks for making me feel like a princess, even if only for a day.
