TIH Desert Oasis Camp - Hunder

The food was so tasty that I didn’t miss meat, though they serve only vegetarian dishes because meat can’t be stored properly in this area. At 1 am we woke the staff to ask for water, and they helped us with a smile. They were some of the most polite, humble and willing-to-help people we met on our trip. The camp is right behind a slow-flowing river, a nice place to spend time by day or night, and it’s about 10-15 minutes from the camel ride point. The hills and the location are amazing, with magnificent views over Nubra Valley. Stargazing at night was incredible. I’ve added a photo we took at 1 am during our stay.

The food was filling and good quality, especially considering how scarce ingredients can be here. We had a lovely stay in this cozy place, and the friendly staff made us feel welcome. The campfire at night made it memorable.

Tea and coffee in thermos flasks in the tents would be a good idea, so they stay hot and don’t spill. We loved our time here, and it was the smiling, courteous staff who made all the difference. Narender Sharma is a gentle, polite soul, and helped make our stay memorable.

The people were good and so was the food. The location is beautiful, set against a cliff, though staying in a tent is a bit inconvenient. It gets windy and a little chilly at night, and electricity was available only in the mornings and evenings. One thing to know when finding the place, turn right before the highway route shown on Google Maps.
