Before our trip, I wish I’d contacted the owner sooner to coordinate. Jaisalmer gets hectic in peak season. Mr. Shiva was polite and understanding, and even arranged our Sam desert tour. We stayed two days and had a wonderful holiday. The rooms are old and rustic, with antiques and basic facilities, but they give you that typical Rajasthani feel. Since the haveli is inside the fort, you can avoid transport. It’s been in his family for around 600 years.

The hot water was missing, which was the one real drawback. Still, the kids loved the unusual experience of staying inside Jaisalmer Fort, and the old-fashioned feel was lovely. Our room was clean and kept in good shape, and the staff, including Rahim Bhai, were friendly and helpful. We had a delicious Rajasthani thali cooked by Rahim Bhai. Parking is outside the fort, so there’s a long walk to the guest house, but being inside the historic fort made it worthwhile. We stayed one night and had a memorable visit.

Shiva and his team helped us with whatever we needed and made it easy to get an authentic feel for this desert city. He even walked around town with us, and arranging a desert tour here is easy too. The house is old and full of charm, right in the middle of the fort, yet the neighbourhood is lovely and quiet. It’s been our favourite place in Rajasthan so far.

The rooms have been maintained well despite being about 200 years old, and they have an antique feel. Shiva is very good and has plenty of rooms. I’d recommend this place to everyone.
