Shivam Paying Guest House

The rooftop has a lovely view of the fort, especially in the evening when it's lit up. My companion and I stayed for three days, and I had been here more than 20 years ago, so coming back was a lovely reunion. It's one of Jodhpur's oldest hotels and feels like a trip back in time, which is worth knowing before you stay. The owner, Rajendra, and his family are wonderful, and we enjoyed some long conversations.

The rooftop restaurant has a lovely view of Mehrangarh Fort, and the food is really tasty. Try the Laal Maas. The rooms are small but very clean and well kept, and the homestay is comfortable and very affordable for a budget stay. There's no parking, which is the one drawback.

Shivam Guest House is right in the heart of Jodhpur, near the Clock Tower, and the rooftop restaurant gives you a panoramic view of the blue city. Mehrangarh Fort makes a magnificent centrepiece for photos, with a clearer view than at some four-to-five-star hotels. The food is all home cooked by the family, who carefully run the homestay day to day. The owner is kind and attentive, and the menu has over 250 dishes, from Continental/English and Indian food to fast food and Poha. There are so many choices, and the food was among the best I had in Jodhpur. The rooms are basic but spacious and perfectly adequate for the modest price. Staff can arrange parking in a common area about 200 meters away, since there's none on site. The hosts were impeccable and went above and beyond throughout my enjoyable stay. It's a suitable choice whether you're in Jodhpur for one day or a whole week. PS: Have a look at the rooftop restaurant photos attached.

Rajendra Ji was kind and offered us a great deal even though it was peak season. He also arranged a cab to Udaipur at a very reasonable price. We stayed at Shivam Guest House from 26th to 28th December, and had a very pleasant two-day visit. The food was good quality, though a little overpriced.
