The Ashok Beach Resort

A quiet, spacious place that seems well suited to families. There’s a sea view from every room, and kids have things to do, including indoor games, swings, the pool, and hammocks that everyone can enjoy. Breakfast was included and good, and the food and service were good too. The private beach is a plus. A nice spot to relax and spend some time. It’s owned by the central government.

The rooms feel old, and the washroom could be cleaner. The property itself is well maintained and in a very good location, while most other things were good. The food was the real problem. Breakfast was just okay, but at lunch I ordered biriyani, soup, chicken, a starter, and noodles, and none of it was good. Even the tomato rice tasted better than the biriyani, and none of the dishes had salt. We paid a good amount for the stay, so it was disappointing that such an important part of a trip was this bad. We later ate at nearby places for a quarter of the price and found the food much tastier. The indoor games area also wasn’t well maintained. When we called for help with the TV or AC, an extra bed, luggage, or room service, the service person would directly ask us for tip money, saying, “give me tea cash.” That made things difficult. The staff rarely seemed happy, and I hardly saw anyone smile. They should pay more attention to these things when guests are paying this much and expect better hospitality. Food, negative five stars.

The open grounds were lovely for quiet walks early in the morning, with greenery all around and a gorgeous view of the beach. We had a fantastic time with family and friends and found the whole stay relaxing. The food was tasty, though a little expensive. It seems to be a popular place that books up quickly.

The sea-facing rooms have a lovely view, and the private beach has a secure perimeter. There’s also a pool, hammocks, and swings. The Ashok group of ITDC property is old and could use refurbishing, especially the furniture, and the rooms are a bit small. It’s in a great location, though outside the city limits. The food is ordinary and could use an upgrade along with the property.
