Summit Barsana Resort & Spa

There was plenty for the kids to do, with a park and gaming zone, and the hotel had a lovely family-friendly atmosphere. Our room was spacious and well kept, and the view was a real highlight. Staff were attentive and polite. The food selection was broad, though some dishes seemed to lack an authentic taste. We had a pleasant, comfortable stay.

Finding the entrance may take a little effort on your first visit. The road down to the hotel is steep, and prominent signs there, plus a few neon lights along the way, could make it easier to find. Once inside, though, it’s a beautiful hillside property with open mountain views. Our room was large, clean and had a private balcony; sitting there with early morning coffee is something I’ll remember. Even the wall-mounted shampoo and shower gel containers felt like a thoughtful touch. The staff were courteous and attentive. The shared restaurant balcony was not mentioned, but our stay at Summit Barsana Kalimpong was one to cherish. Excellent work by Nygel and his team, thank you.

The breakfast area was chaotic, full of flies, and the service there was poor. In the room, the bedding and curtains were stained, the bathroom smelled awful, and the towels had mould on them. The room itself was dirty and poorly maintained. We were only passing through on the way to Gangtok for one day; after checking the website and other booking portals, we’d felt sure about staying here. Luckily we travel with our own basics. We were glad we hadn’t booked their property for Pelling as well. Don’t rely on the four stars they advertise; we saw the same claim while booking. This felt more like a transit lodge than a star property. I was quite disappointed.

The food really surprised me for a 4 star resort, it was fantastic. The staff were warm and friendly, and the cozy, homely atmosphere made us comfortable. The garden, dining area and games room were lovely, and the views were especially beautiful. Live music at dinner made the evening feel even more special. I’d recommend staying here if you’re in Kalimpong.
