Fort House

We were welcomed so warmly by Swapan, who gave us sweet roses and got the day off to a positive start. Fort House is right by the water, with lovely trees and flowers, and feels like a little oasis in Kochi. Breakfast each morning was delicious, with omelets, pancakes, fruit, juice, and more. It’s a bit off the main road, so it wasn’t too noisy or busy. Wonderful stay and hospitality.

We had Valentine’s Day dinner at Fort house restaurant and really enjoyed it. The service was the best part. The prawns were lovely, though we weren’t as keen on the beef, which may just come down to personal taste. I’d recommend the restaurant.

We had the fish pollichathu, fish curry, mushroom garlic, rice, and watermelon and feta salad. The backwater view was lovely, and the place was pleasant, clean, and well maintained. It’s pet-friendly, which is a big plus, and the fish dishes were especially good. Prices are a little high, and we waited almost an hour for the food. Veg choices are very limited, so it’s not a great pick for vegetarians. A good experience if you like seafood and don’t mind waiting.

I’ve eaten here before and really liked the food, so this visit was a huge disappointment. The fish moilee looked and tasted like dal curry. Chicken and prawn fry were decent but nothing special; the chicken fry had a good texture but was bland, and the beef was average. Then the chicken curry arrived, and to me it was a perfect example of how not to cook chicken. I hate leaving negative reviews, but I hope the kitchen doesn’t spoil a hotel that once served really good food. This time, what was served barely felt like food to me. I really wish I’d eaten somewhere else.
