Hotel Sham Suman

At just 50 meters from the Mahalaxmi Temple, the location is extremely convenient for darshan. Getting there in your own vehicle can be a challenge, though: the road is narrow, and street vendors line the area in front of nearly every shop and hotel, so plan your arrival time. The rooms are decent for a short stay, but the lobby and corridors need better upkeep, possibly because of work going on. Parking was a real plus for me. They use a car lift system, which made parking easy and safe in such a busy area. For breakfast, Shri Sai Dosa Center is about 200 meters away, an easy walk for a tasty start to the morning.

There's no room service. The location is very handy, right opposite the North gate. Basement parking uses a dedicated car lift, but getting the car into the lift and down to the basement is difficult. Staff are available to guide you through it.

I don't usually leave reviews, but wanted to warn other travelers going to Kolhapur. This was a nightmare for my family, and I strongly advise pilgrims not to book here. I booked two rooms through GOIBIBO and paid INR 5.5K for each, around INR 11K total. It was Christmas, so hotel prices had surged, leaving pilgrims to pay a lot. The rooms smelled of urine. Staff used room fresheners, but the smell came back as soon as they wore off. I was staying with my senior citizen parents, my wife, and our infant, and spending even one night there was awful. Neither GOIBIBO nor the hotel management returned my money, and the hotel did nothing about the smell. We had to endure it, then left right after darshan in the morning. Staff were rude and kept saying there was no smell and that theirs was the best hotel in the locality. Parking was another nightmare. You have to take the car down in a lift to a basement with a lot of stagnant water. They had put bricks there so you could step out of the car after parking. The one advantage is that it's right opposite Mahalakshmi temple, so you can get into the temple premises quickly. Everything else about our stay was a nightmare.

The rooms are very neat and tidy, and the location is good, right in front of the temple. The manager was kind and good. His name is Vaibhav patil.
