Avs Prime

I booked four rooms at AVS Prime Hotel/The South Island for family celebration guests coming in from around the country. The hotel is opposite Bisarjan Ghat, close to Biswa Bangla Gate in DE Block, and worked well as a reasonably priced base in Newtown. The rooms are roomy, well kept, and affordable, with two Deluxe Rooms and one Super Deluxe Room on each floor. The washrooms were large and very clean too. The pure vegetarian restaurant served hearty food with good quality, quantity, and prices. Staff were warm, helpful, and courteous, and were fine with guests ordering meat through local delivery apps. There are a couple of practical snags. The lift was temperamental and made check-in and checkout harder with luggage, though management had arranged repairs. Parking is limited to three spaces, so once those are full you'll need to find roadside parking. I'd give the stay 9/10 and recommend it for business or leisure in Newtown, with some patience for the lift and an Uber app handy.

We had wedding guests stay here alongside guests in other nearby hotels, and the experience was extremely bad. Despite advance payments, the hotel charged guests again and kept calling them during the wedding events to ask for room payments. They also failed to apply breakfast adjustments we'd discussed earlier. I wouldn't recommend it.

A nice, cozy place by a park, suited to people who enjoy quiet surroundings.

The atmosphere and aesthetics were lovely, and I liked the food too. The rooms were quite clean.
