Broadway Hotel

After all these years, it’s deeply disappointing to see how unfamiliar the place feels. My parents, who are from Assam, were coming here in the 90s, and my mother had visited since the 70s. I started drinking at the bar around 2010, and fifteen years later it feels like Broadway is just another place. The menu is confusing, with biryani and desserts sharing the same space, and couples are asked to share tables even when there’s hardly a crowd. The simple pleasure of waiting for a spot and chatting with the doorman is gone. Maybe today’s kids are less patient and quick to leave a bad review. Perhaps this is the way forward, but future generations won’t know what it used to be.

The retro look is nice, but the way this place runs feels just as stuck in the 80s. Orders get mixed up because nothing is automated, and extra charges can show up. Food and drinks take ages, and they keep saying it’ll be two minutes. You’re stuck waiting for the bill before you can leave. They even bring gaslighters from the kitchen to serve you. If this is your Puja destination, I’d skip it. The hassle and extra time aren’t worth it.

The food was average, and the service dragged badly. We waited close to 1.5 hours for starters, then gave up and cancelled the main course because it was taking too long. The elderly manager stood by the entrance but didn’t help. A very disappointing visit.

The room itself was great, and prices were good for this area. I had a lemon drop martini, which was okay. The main bar had a nice atmosphere, though the cocktail bar seemed pretty quiet.
